Makers Statement:
Painting is the poetry of sight. Poetry is the music of sound.
I have been drawing all my life. My father was a fine draftsman and I learned by watching him. This inspired a career in architecture and design whose disciplines taught me to think in 3-dimensional and romantic form.
From the baroque of Bach, to the modernity of Satie, to the swing of Brubeck, music is the artery of life. In all its forms it provides opportunities for expression: the order of an orchestra through to the adlib nature of contemporary jazz. Audience participation also fascinates me.
Throughout time, artists like Kandinsky and Klee have explored “painting music”. I wish to further this investigation via abstract form. The Sound of Music is the first chapter of these studies.
